I went here with my wife and son today. When we first walked in we were skeptical. It doesn't look like much. It's kind of run down and has banquet chairs and old tables. However, don't let the decor fool you. The food is very good. It's very fresh and there's a lot of it. I had the fajitas (steak) which was delicious, my wife had the #13 combo plate and again huge and delicious. My son had the nachos appetizer for a meal and as previously states HUGE!!! Enough for 3 people easy. Some other yelpers mentioned the service being horrible. Our waitress, Maria, was a woman of few words but was extremely pleasant. It's easy to see how some might see her as unpleasant. She is just very quiet. Overall, I would definitely eat here again. The food is way above average and service was good. The value for your money is really good.

I'm writing this in hopes that Mary will see it. I love your restaurant but the last 2 times I've been, the service and food has really suffered. I hope there aren't personal reasons why you've been away, but it's not the same without you there.

We eat here several times a month when we visit Cottonwood and have never been disappointed. I always order the beef chimichanga, can't help myself. They are usually always busy so service can be slow. They give you plenty of chips & salsa while you wait.

Good service, but disappointed with the food. Enchilada was decent, but beef tacos were not edible and strange. They were like mushy logs of beef in a fried tortilla. Sopaipilla was good though. I would not recommend this place or come again though.

You'd be hard pressed to find this place unless you frequented the area on a regular basis. Just off Highway 260, this joint looks like a country roadhouse sitting there on Horseshoe Bend dr. The building is really old, but they have done what they can to spruce the place up on the inside. The bathroom was pretty disgusting though. Food was pretty good, yet a bit overpriced. Maybe that's because it's the only game NOT in town! (Bad joke). Wife had the nachos, I had a combination plate that was good, but it was like 11 bucks. Not sure I would return here, but glad we tried it after passing by and being curious for the past 4 years.

Good food with good prices... Friendly waiter Ric... We enjoyed a nice lunch finished with fresh sopapillas and honey!

I thought this was going to be as good as the La Fonda's in Flagstaff. No where close. The chips were burned and everything was soak in grease. I had the fajitas - burnt. The server was rude and kept rolling her eyes every time we asked for something. They messed up our drink order and forgot a food order then just blamed the cooks in back. I really don't care who's fault it was - FIX IT. The salsa was horrid. After dinner we had to take the kids to fast food joint.

4 of us went for lunch and Mary, our server , was great. Lots of food on the lunch specials. We all love Mexican food and found this just OK. Food was bland but the salsa & hot sauce helped.

My hands down, 100%, favorite restaurant of all time. I get the same thing every time I go (two bean burritos, beans, rice) and leave fat and happy. Yeah it is a dive, but who cares? Every time I visit family in CV, I have to stop by before I leave. Note: closed Mondays, very inconvenient. Chain, located in Flagstaff and Prescott also.

Seemed ok, then found a hair in our beans. Waitress blamed it on my wife (who had her hair tied back). Wouldn't even take it off the bill and we only ate a couple bites. I am left no choice but to leave 1 star.....

YUM! I have been a frequent eater in the Flagstaff location for 23 years (I know, I must have been in diapers with a margarita in my bottle), but this was my first visit to Camp Verde (after a failed attempt to eat there last year on a Monday-they're closed). Dare I say, this location is better? I shall say it. It's better than its Flag counterpart. Menu is the same, recipes have the same flavor, but the food is prepared just a little bit better. I've never been wild about the chips or the squirt bottle hot sauce, but I manage to choke down my fair share of it anyway. If they made fresh tortillas, I would be happy to award the coveted 5th star. I went with my usual #21 (enchilada, taco, picaro). It wasn't always #21 (I think it used to be #19) and it wasn't always $9+. I think I have probably deviated from this option maybe twice, and was sorry I did. Not because I didn't like it, but because I missed my cheesy enchilada with the just the right amount of spice for me red sauce, the crunchy beef taco with the not overly seasoned shredded beef, and my cute little chicken picaro topped with guacamole that's better eaten without a fork. Why screw up a good thing? And I'm always happy to see a golden brown sopapilla after my meal at no additional charge. A little honey and I'm good to go lie down for a few. You will be, too!

Good Mex food but not excellent, Flagstaff location is better. I enjoyed the sopaipilla though same as Flagstaff's.

The location is quite odd and the decor is rather basic but the food was really good. The chips and hot sauce were good, the salsa was average. The beans have such great flavor - yum. The tacos were crisp and tasty and the sopapilla was melt in your mouth. I was extremely disappointed with the margarita, otherwise I would give a higher rating. We also had great service from the owner which is a nice touch. I will return but order a beer.

Good, no-nonsense Mexican joint in Camp Verde off I-17 en route to Cottonwood/Jerome that is very reasonably priced. Their menu has several combinations to choose from that include Tacos, Enchiladas, Tamales and all the usual items you can expect from a Mexican restaurant. Their beef taco is one of the crispiest I've ever had and NO grease at all which made for a little less guilt. Enchilada was fine and this was served with good rice and beans. Served up with a side of guac, I have no complaints. You won't find items like Carne Asada on the menu and the only real departure they seem to have from their combinations is fajitas. This seems to be because they have a formula that works and, things being the way they are now, they probably are sticking with what works and judging from the crowd on Friday, their formula works.

This place is a joke. I don't know why people brag about it. I don't think the locals know good food from road kill. When I ordered the green chile burrito I asked if it came with beef and she said it came with beef & green chile sauce. When I got the food it was 95% sauce & 5% beef. When I asked the waitress about it, she looked at me like I was stupid and didn't offer me anything else. Do yourself a favor and and avoid this place at any cost, and go anywhere but this place. The end!

Near our destination of Sedona, we stopped at this little place for a late lunch. L. sang high praises of the location in La Fonda, so it was no doubt for him that we would make a stop here. We were quickly seated in the quaint restaurant and were shortly brought out some waters and chips and salsa. After researching the menu, I decided on a cheese enchilada and chicken taco platter, with a tortilla AND sopapilla (I know, I got a little wild). Not too long after, our meals came out on hot plates and I had to wait a little bit as to not burn my tongue while eating all the yummy food. Anyways, it was good. Really good. Really good authentic Mexican food. Plus I had a Shirley Temple to satisfy my childhood cravings.

We just left La Fonda for a late lunch and it was excellent. The kids (ages 5-13) shared the same sentiment. The sopapillas were fresh as well as EVERY item we ordered. Dave was very knowledgeable with the menu and he was kind and professional. It will surprise you with its casaul atmosphere but it rocks!

It doesn't exactly have the best ambiance, but they'll win you over with their deliciousness and friendly service. The green chile burrito even had the green chile inside. We also couldn't get enough of their chips and salsa. I'll eat here in a heartbeat over any other Mexican restaurant with the fanciest table settings.

My wife is a Mexican food snob. It has to be really, really good to get her approval. This place did it hands down. We've been there twice in one week, she liked it so much. The portions are huge, the prices are affordable, and the service is great. On our second visit, one week after the first, our waitress recognized us, knew exactly what we had ordered the first time around for our party of four, and made us feel like family. While my wife is a Mexican food fan, I am more a meat and potatoes guy. La Fonda has American items on the menu too. I had the chicken fried steak, which was delicious, and almost more than I could finish.

Really good! The prices were a little highish, $27.99 for two people (dinner combos). The beef tacos were super, they fried the shells themselves. The staff was friendly, the place was packed (and always is every time I go by). Will definitely be going back but not as often as I'd like because of the price And the place appeared clean, definitely a plus! Yummy!!

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I am partial to little hole-in-the-wall family places. This place is not pretty but the food is excellent. I have been twice and have had very good service both times. I think this place is a hidden gem.

This place was packed when we ate here, obviously popular with the locals. I had the rellano burito. Not that good. The red sauce is more like gravy and not very spicy. No choice of black beans. Chips and salsa were good and the margherita was fair. The wait staff were friendly and worked hard to deal with the crowd.

Horrible bad bad service. Food is good but the service kills it. Not worth going out of your way for. Restaurant needs a major overhaul. Go to los betos by dairy queen instead. Much better food and service.

Driving back to the valley, I did a quick yelp search to find what was near us to stop and eat. La Fonda popped up as the closest. The food was really good. The staff seemed a bit confused as to who had our table so we ended up repeating our drink order a couple of times. I excused myself to the restroom. The stench in there was horrid. On the way back to the table, I couldn't help but to notice the carpet. It was horribly dirty. When the food arrived, our server said the plates were hot. She wasn't kidding. Not right away but after a few minutes, my husband went to turn his plate and just about got a blister. The food tasted good. With the bathroom stench and the look of the carpet made me think if this is what we can see, what's it like in areas we can't see... where the food is actually prepared. That thought made me much less hungry and so much was left on my plate. I relied on yelp to help me find a place to stop so I will return the favor to others seeking someplace to stop on this route. I would not go back based on the fact I didn't feel it was clean. Everyone was nice enough and the price wasn't bad and the taste of the food was good, but it's important that's it's clean.

A RV blogger recommended this place so we looked forward to our meal. Service was attentive. We both ordered the $7.20 lunch special of a green burrito and taco. The server asked if we wanted the green chili; we both responded yes because that is the lunch special we ordered. When the bill came out, we were charged over $10 per lunch. When I asked about the price difference, I was told that we had added on something stated below the lunch menu: there is an extra charge for enchilada style and for beef. I had/have no idea what the heck she was talking about. When I told her I had no idea what she was talking about and that we had ordered the #3 lunch special, she just said "Oh sorry" but there was no backing off the price difference. I feel totally ripped off. I really have no idea what the extra charge was for. If I hadn't seen a piece of green chili I wouldn't have even known it had green chili in it, the burrito had no flavor and it was the first time we have ever had ground beef in a green chili burrito. If you go there, be very careful what you order and good luck.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
